Summerhays Just One Back at Greenbrier Midpoint
Daniel Summerhays is in a logjam tie for second place at the halfway point of the Greenbier Classic in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia. He trails the leader, Matt Every, by one shot.
The tournament is being televised Saturday on the Golf Channel and Sunday on CBS.
Every fired a hot second round 62 and with his opening round of 69 stands at 131 on the par 70 golf course. Summerhays shot an opening round 65 and followed it up with a 67 for a 132. Tied with him are Bill Lunde, Steven Bowditch, Russell Henry and Johnson Wagner.
Those are not famous names on the tour as many of them took the week off to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, but one big name, Phil Mickelsen, shot 74-68-142 and missed the cut by two shots.
Tom Watson is playing in the tournament and shot 68-69-137 and stands in 39th place.
This is a big tournament for the second tier players as a good performance gives them a chance to move up the season leaderboard that is critical to retain their tour cards for next season.
