Long Drive Contest at Coral Canyon Features Current World Record Holder
Sports Radio ESPN 1210AM presents the 9th Annual Interstate Battery Utah State Long Drive Championship and Salisbury Homes Hole-in-one shoot out June 27th through June 29th at Coral Canyon Golf Course in Washington, Utah. Activities start at 4 p.m., Thursday, June 27th and are open and free to the public each day until 8 p.m. Competitors can register at the event for as little as $10. Additionally, Coral Canyon will feature the Utah Long Drive 4-man scramble tournament open to the public. This 18-hole competition starts at 7 a.m., Saturday, June 29th and is $200 per team to registration. The 9th Annual Utah State Long Drive Championship will include defending RE/MAX World Champion & current world record holder, Ryan Winther. A California native turned Utah local and Army Veteran, he specialized in Field Artillery Computations until suffering an injury in 2002. Winther went pro in 2009 after winning the ALDA Championship in Phoenix, then went on to win two more championships in 2011 and recently took the 2012 Mesquite Duel in the Desert, 2012 Salt Lake City Rockwell Golf Blast and the RE/MAX 2012 World Long Drive Championship respectively. Working with technicians at Titleist, his drive was recently clocked in at an impressive 226.7 MPH (27 mph slower than a Bughatti Veyron, the world’s fastest production car). He also holds multiple entries in the Guinness Book of World Records including a longest carry drive of over a kilometer at an elevation of 430 yards. Winther will be appearing 4pm, Wednesday June 26th at the old St George Airport to attempt another world record. Locals can listen to the action live on the Devin Dixon Show on 1210AM/107.3FM or the public is welcome to attend at no charge. He will also be competing Thursday thru Saturday at Coral Canyon in the Utah State Long Drive Championship. Along with Winther several other LDA Pros, including locals Logan Leavitt, Chad Kline (last year’s Men’s Open champ) and Greg walker as well as other long hitters throughout Southern Utah and the West will make up another terrific field. There are seven divisions to compete in for the long drive; Men’s Senior 45 and up, Super Senior 52 and up, Masters 60 and up, Men’s Amateur Open, Men’s Open, Women’s Open, and the Junior Division (17 and under). Additional exciting events will take place within the Long Drive competition. Events like the Zion Golf Accuracy Zone & the Wingnutz Hot Zone will give competitors a chance to win prizes on the spot. Other events open to the public are the Salisbury Homes Hole-in-one shootout. This event takes the top eight qualifiers each day to the finals and gives them one shot per finalist for their chance to get a hole-in-one and win a home valued at $250,000. The public is also welcome to the Sunrise Tire Putting Contest with qualifying rounds starting at 4pm-8pm, June 27th.
