Weir Posts Final Round of 69 at U.S. Open
Mike Weir shot a final round 69 at the US Open and finished in 28th place and it marks a major turning point in his game. He has struggled for several years with injuries and has not played the quality of golf that led him to winning the Masters in 2003.
His strong performance at the US Open at Merion came despite the unsettling weather that disrupted ordinary tournament schedules for all the players. Play was interrupted by rain and darkness and one night he had to get up at 3:45 in the morning to finish a round and then began the next round five hours later. Still he kept his concentration and his final round of 69 was the fourth best round of the day.
Weir shot rounds of 72-76-75-69-292. Weir reached the U.S. Open as an alternate.
Jay Don Blake, who was medalist at the sectional qualifying site, missed the cut after posting opening rounds of 74-80-154.
Weir and Blake have both been inducted into the Utah Golf Hall of Fame.
