Entry Deadline Nears for Expanded Utah State Amateur

The expanded 115th Utah State Amateur will be held at Soldier Hollow Golf Course beginning Monday July 8th and concluding on Saturday, July 13th with 64 players advancing to match play in place of 32.
“The quality of play at the Utah State Am increases each year and this expansion to 64 players versus 32 will provide a greater opportunity for the best players to compete for this coveted championship,” said UGA Executive Director Bill Walker.
Soldier Hollow was the site of the USGA Public Links Championship last year and has been the site of four previous Utah State Amateur Championships. The 36-hole qualifying rounds will be held on both the Gold and Silver Courses, but all the match play portion will be played on the Gold Course. 288
“We reversed nines on the Gold Course for the Public Links tournament and that was so successful that we have permanently reversed the nines,” said head pro Chris Newson. “We also added a forward tee on the 18th hole which creates a suspenseful risk-reward situation,” he said.
“The UGA will be setting the tees, but I’m sure that when the tournament gets to match play they will put that tee to good use,” Newson said.
Another major change in the State Am format is the shift from the traditional Wednesday through Sunday dates to Monday through Saturday. This is an important change that will affect the normal scheduling for many players. The date change eliminates Sunday play for the tournament and adds an extra week day to accommodate the match play expansion to 64.
Because of the readily accessible availability of two 18-hole golf courses there will be 288 qualifiers advance to Soldier Hollow instead of the usual 156.
The entry deadline is 4 p.m. on Friday, May 31st and all entrants must have an active UGA handicap of 9.9 and lower as of the May 15th handicap revision.
The entry fee for the qualifying round is $70, but there is a $5 discount for entering online. There is an additional $105 entry fee for those who qualify for the finals at Soldier Hollow.
The online entry process begins with going to uga.org, then to tournaments, then to UGA championships. Then you must log in with your user name and password. Follow directions on how to get a user name and password if you don’t already have one.
