Julie Knighton First Woman Elected as President of Ogden Golf and Country Club

OGDEN, Utah (May, 2013) — Julie Knighton was recently installed as the 74th President of the Board of Directors of Ogden Golf and Country Club (OGCC). She is the first female president in the Club’s 99-year history.The 11-member board of directors oversees the operation of OGCC, and is elected by the Club members. Holly Nye Bauman was the 1st woman elected to the board of directors in 2001, Knighton was elected to the board in 2009, and Linda Kelley was elected to the board earlier this year.”We are excited to be celebrating our centennial anniversary in 2014, and proud of our role in the community,” said Knighton. In conjunction with it’s centennial, Ogden Golf and Country Club will host both the Men’s and Women’s Utah State Amateur golf tournaments in 2014. Knighton’s priority as President is to increase the membership base by promoting OGCC’s affordability as a quality facility for recreation, networking and family-friendly activities. Under her leadership, a one-year trial membership has been established called the Centennial Trial Membership.Knighton owns a P.T. clinic in South Ogden, and has been a Physical Therapist for 30-years. This is her 20th season as a member of the Club, which has been a central point of family activities for the Knighton family as well as business development for her practice. She attributes her two son’s low handicaps as well the success of her practice to her association with OGCC. Her husband, Noall Knighton, was President of OGCC in 2001. As an active member of the community, Julie was honored as a State of Utah Mentor of the Year for her work with Weber County’s Best Friends program in 2004. The Knighton’s currently serve as a host family for the Ogden Raptors baseball team, and Julie is also a past Honorary Commander of the 388th Fighter Wing, a community liaison appointment. She has also written golf fitness columns for Fairways Magazine for a number of years.Celebrating its 99th year, Ogden Golf and Country Club was incorporated November 3, 1914; making it the oldest continuously operated country club in the state of Utah in the same location. The beautiful, member-owned club is an exclusive recreational, dining and social facility, which hosts banquets, wedding receptions, Christmas parties and charity tournaments for members and non-members alike. The quick pace of play is a trademark of the golf course, with 18-holes of play taking only 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Ogden Golf and Country Club’s history is an important part of Ogden’s past with notable city and business leaders guiding it. The oldest living past president of the OGCC is Bryce Jensen who served in 1970. Jensen is 98-years old and frequents the club for lunch with his family. He had a hole-in-one in 2011. Rich in tradition and history, The Club has hosted a number of prestigious tournaments including: LPGA events, the Junior America’s Cup, the Utah State men’s and women’s Amateurs and the Utah Open. OGCC is the home course for both the Men’s and Women’s golf team at Weber State University. The Club hosts high school and Utah junior golf tournaments, as well as events for the Utah section of the PGA and the UGA.
