Utah State vs. Weber State in Match Play in California
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly will host the third Cal Poly Match Play Championship for men on Thursday and Friday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
Eight teams are involved in the tournament and the first round pits two UJtah teams, Weber State and Utah State against each other.
Each team will field five golfers with the No. 1 golfers from each team playing each other, No. 2 vs. No. 2, etc. Cal Poly will field two teams for the two-day event.
First-round pairings for men are Cal Poly vs. defending champion Seattle, Fresno State against CSU Bakersfield, Utah State vs. Weber State and Northern Colorado against Cal Poly’s “B” team.
First round will be held Thursday morning starting at 7:30 a.m., with the semifinals set for Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The finals will tee off Friday at 7:30 a.m.
The Cal Poly men’s team, coached by Scott Cartwright, has won two tournaments this season — the 14-team Pat Hicks Invitational hosted by Southern Utah in February and the 11-team Firestone Grill Invitational hosted by Cal Poly last October.
