Summerhays Falls Out of Contention, Daly Shoots 86
Three players, Jonas Blixt, Brendon de Jonge, and Ryan Moore, have separated themselves from the field in the Justin Timberlake Shriner’s Children Hospital Championship being held at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. They are each 19 under par after three rounds and their closest competitors are five shots back.Daniel Summerhays started the third round in third place, but his one over par tally dropped him into 12th place, nine shots behind the leaders. Summerhays had great opening rounds of 68-63, but his one over par 72 dropped him out of title contention.
John Daly looked like he was back in top form during the first two rounds as he shot 69-63 and was positioned in the top six, but the third round was an unmitigated disaster. He shot 86, 15 over par. He was 12 under par after two rounds and squandered them all plus three more.He had two birdies, five pars, five bogeys, two double bogeys, a triple bogey, and a quad. He was even par his last five holes. He is now dead last in the field and is 24 shots behind the leaders. Everyone in the field passed him up and he now trails the field by three.
How does that happen? He’s had a drinking problem in the past. Has it returned?
Considering all rounds in the tournament for all three days, including the rounds of all those who didn’t make the cut, all 336 rounds, the highest score other than Daly’s 86 was an 80. The next highest scores were two 77s.
Perhaps the Vegas sports betting parlors will have an over and under on what Daly will shoot Sunday.
