Maple Mountain Wins 4A Golf Title at Logan G&CC

Maple Mountain won the Class 4A Utah High School golf championship Thursday at Logan Golf and Country Club by five shots over Bonneville, and Timpview’s C.J. Lee won medalist honors by one shot over Maple Mountain’s Kai Ruiz.
It was a very tight team competition. Maple Mountain posted a 302 in the first round, but it was a mere two shot lead over Bonneville and Timpanogos, just three ahead of Orem, and just five over Timp View.
With four teams breathing down their necks Maple Mountain withstood the pressure and on the second day again posted the best team score, a 306, which was good enough for a five shot victory margin over Bonneville.
In the chase for medalist honors C.J. Lee of Timpview shot an opening round of 68 which was good for a three shot lead. However, in the second round he triple bogeyed the seventh hole and it brought the field back into contention.
On the back nine Lee settled down and held off Maple Mountain’s Kelly Ruiz to win by one shot. Lee posted 68-74-142 and Ruiz carded 72-71-143. Ruiz’s 71 was the best score of the second day.
And a special hats off is due the Logan Golf and Country Club for making its course available for the high school championship.
