Joe Summerhays Wins Assistant’s Championship
PARK CITY – Assistant professionals from all over the Utah Section of the PGA teed it up to compete in the 2012 Assistant Championship Tuesday and Wednesday at the Park City Golf Course. Joe Summerhays won the title and was the only player to finish the 36-hole contest at under par, 71-71 for a -2, 142 total! Zach Johnson earned second place honors at 4 shots back and defending champion Chris Moody tied for 3rd with Matt Baird and Troy Watkins at 147. By winning, Summerhays qualified for the 36th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship presented by Cobra Puma Golf, Nov. 1-4, at The PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The facility will be hosting its seventeenth consecutive PGA Assistant Championship. Summerhays will be joined by Johnson and Baird at this National Championship. Baird won the playoff for the third spot with a birdie on the second playoff hole. The winner of the 36th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF earns $9,000 out of the purse of $100,000. The top-70 finishers after the second round, including ties, will make the cut.
