Horner, Jolley, Wright Representing Utah at USGA Men’s State Team Tourney

The USGA Men’s State Championship begins today at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey and Utah is being represented by a strong team consisting of Utah State Am champion Jon Wright, former Utah State Am champion Dan Horner, and Jeff Jolley. UGA board member John Taylor is the team captain. It will be Wright’s first year on the team, but this makes four times for Dan Horner and three times for Jeff Jolley.
The tournament is held every other year, alternating with the USGA Women’s State Team Championship.
In the last USGA Men’s State Team Championship Utah had two good rounds of even par and three under par, but the middle round of 15-over par was its bugaboo. That team finished 21st and consisted of Kirk Siddens (72-78-70-220), Dan Horner (75-79-69-223), and Darrin Overson (70-80-77-227). Kansas won the title with a three under par team total.
“Each team gets to throw out one score per day, but what we needed was to get to throw out one day,” Taylor commented at the time.
The tournament consists of three-man teams from golf associations throughout the country and the two low individual scores count for the team total in each of the three rounds.
