Bobby Trunzo In Second Year As Head Pro at Park Meadows
Park Meadows Country Club, known for several years as the site of Utah’s PGA Senior Tour event, has pretty much been absent from the competitive tournament schedules of the Utah Golf Association for several years.
This week that changed as Park Meadows opened its course for the USGA Senior Amateur Qualifying. Reed McGregor, past president of the UGA and chairman of the USGA Senior Am committee, was really pleased with the site selection.
“It was a great venue for the event. The course is in marvelous shape and head professional Bobby Trunzo was very cooperative and helped the event run smoothly,” McGregor said.
Trunzo was also pleased with the event and said, “We hope Park Meadows can be a bigger part of the Utah golf community and we look forward to hosting other similar high quality events.”
Park Meadows is a private country club in Park City and it has been stable throughout the recession. It has 285 members with a goal of 300 members.
Trunzo is just getting acquainted with the Utah golf community. He became the head professional at Park Meadows in March of 2011 and this is his second year. Prior to that he was the head professional at Rim Golf Club in Payson, Arizona.
“I’m really impressed with Utah golf. The professionals I’ve met are first class and the Utah Golf Association has been very helpful to us,” he said. “We are glad to be here. Utah is a great place.”
Trunzo was born in Vacaville, California and graduated from Vacaville High School in 1993 where he played on the golf team. He went to American River Junior College in Sacramento and worked at Del Paso Country Club while going to school.
He turned professional and passed his PAT in 1996 and earned his Class A status in 2001. He worked at Deseret Mountain in Carefree, Arizona for three years and then moved to Forest Highlands in Flagstaff as an assistant pro. He moved to the Estancia Golf Club in Scottsdale as an asssistant pro and became the head pro there in 2006. His next stop was as head professional at the Rim Golf Club in Payson before taking the Park Meadows job.
Trunzo’s wife, Saskia, works closely with him at Park Meadows and is the merchandiser/buyer. She hails from Wisconsin and they met at Forest Highlands where they were both working. When they moved to Scottsdale she also was the merchandiser at Mirabel and DC Ranch, two high end country clubs. They have a four-year old daughter, Sophie.
“We are looking forward to many good years here,” Trunzo said.
