Casper, Gaiotti Start Well in USGA Championships

The USGA began two national championships Saturday with several Utahns participating in each of them.

Annette Gaiotti shot a 77 in the first round of the U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur and that looks to be in pretty good position, but half the field was unable to finish the round because of inclement weather. Martha Scott shot 88 and will probably not make the cut.

Mason Casper is the leading Utahn at the USGA Mid-Am Championship. He shot one over par 72. He is playing in the tournament under an exemption given to him by the USGA. Dan Horner shot 75 and Kirk Siddens shot 78. Former Cougar golfer Eric Rustand shot 77. It looks like the cut will be around 148.
