Garner Holds Qualifying Lead in Women’s State Am at Logan Golf and Country Club
Lea Garner jumped off to a four shot lead after the first round of qualifying for the Utah State Women’s Amateur Championship being played at the Logan Golf and Country Club. Garner’s score came as a result of four straight birdies on holes seven through 10 and she finished with a three under par 68.
Four ladies stand four shots back including defending champion Julie McMullin, Sadie Palmer, Tara Green, and Naomi Soifua.
Sirene Blair, regarded as one of the foremost favorites, is five shots back with an opening round of 73.
The qualifying portion of the tournament continues today with the low 15 qualifiers advancing to match play along with last year’s champion, Julie McMullin, who is the automatic number one seed.
The match play begins on Thursday with two rounds and on Friday with the semifinals in the morning and the finals in the afternoon.
