Tway, Blake To FaceThoughts of Old Rivalry in Final Round of Montreal Open

It was 32 years ago when the then unknown Jay Don Blake won the NCAA Championship and left the favorite, Bob Tway holding a second place medal.

Sunday the two will be crossing shafts again, this time in the final round of the Montreal Open on the PGA Champions Tour.

Tway holds a two shot lead over Blake and he can already hear footsteps. Tway has fired strong rounds of 70-65-135 and holds a one shot lead over Mark Calcavecchia, but it is probably Blake that he will be most concerned about. He’s been waiting many years for a re-do of the NCAA tournament . Blake has shot rounds of 70-67-137 and the sight of Tway in front of him on the scoreboard will only give him added incentive for a strong finishing round.

Hale Irwin, Russ Cochran, and Michael Allen are also just two back and so it is crowded field.

Down in 14th place is Dan Forsman with rounds of 69-72-141.
