Blair Grabs Five Shot Lead in Mary Lou Baker Open

Sirene Blair shot a marvelous five under par 66 to take a five shot lead over Lea Garner after the first round of the Mary Lou Baker Open at Davis Park Golf Course.  Both Blair and Garner recently won medalist honors in their respective classifications at the Utah Girls High School Championship.

Blair is just coming off a disappointing performance at the USGA Junior Girls Qualifying at Hidden Valley Country Club, and Garner is just coming off a very fine performance at the USGA Women’s Public Links Championship where she won a playoff to get into match play and then won her first match.

Blair’s five-shot grip on the lead in the Mary Lou Baker Open seems pretty significant with just one round left to play, but reversals of form are possible.

Tara Green and Sadie Palmer are also lurking near the lead. They shot one over par 72s and trail Blair by six shots.

Garner is the defending champion in the tournament. She won it last year by eight shots at Talons Cove with rounds of 75-73-148. Blair did not play last year.
