Garners Lead Bonneville Lakers to Second Straight 4A Prep Golf Championship
Led by the dad-daughter duo of Blair and Lea Garner the Bonneville Lakers repeated as the girls Class 4A Utah High School golf champions at Wasatch Mountain Wednesday. The Lakers finished seven Stableford points ahead of second place Box Elder and Lea Garner was the individual medalist by a comfortable three shots. She shot 73 while Kim Nyhus of Orem and McCall Uyematsu of Box Elder finished tied for second with 76s.
It was a grand finish to a splendid high school career for the Garner duo. Lea’s dad, Blair, has been the coach of the Bonneville girls for the past four years and he was walked many a step with his daughter on the golf course.
Another Garner, Jamie, had the second best score for the Lakers, but she is not of the same Garner clan. Others on the winning Bonneville team were Kenzi Kendell, Tallie Alder, Annalee Chadwick, and Annika Hunter.
Lea has been the medalist in every tournament she has played in this year, including the UGA’s Mary Lou Baker Open, and has signed a letter of intent to play at BYU next season.
The tournament was under the direction of the Utah Section of the PGA. Complete results of the tournament can be found on the Utah Section PGA web page by going to this link. https://www.utahpga.com/assets/2012%204A%20Girls%20Results%20Team.pdf
