Cole Ogden Leads Winterchamps After First Day

Cole Ogden leads after day one at the Utah Golf Association WinterChamps tournament in St. George. Battling blustery winds for most of the round Cole found himself at the top of the leaderboard with 48 points on a six birdie and one eagle day.  He shot a 4-under 68 on the par-72 Sunbrook Golf Course (Pointe and Woodbridge). He is a member of the BYU golf team and younger brother of former United States Public Links champion Clay Ogden. He failed to make the BYU traveling team for a tournament in Arizona this weekend and so he decided to enter Winterchamps.
“I have been hitting it pretty solid over the last few weeks and making some consistent progress. I didn’t want to take the week off so I decided to enter WinterChamps and keep playing while the team is in Arizona.”

After spending sometime with golf professional Grant Waite in Las Vegas and making some minor adjustments to his swing, Ogden has been feeling pretty good about his swing and his game lately.

Southern Utah University golfer Sadie Palmer leads the Women’s Championship Flight with a commanding 46 points. Palmer had six birdies on the day playing at Bloomington Country Club. Tied for second place with 38 points after the opening round are Utah Junior Golf Association members Naomi Soifua and Sirene Blair.
The Men’s Senior Championship flight is led by a familiar name. Todd Barker (45 points) has a one point lead on Patrick Murphy (44). The Seniors also played at Bloomington Country Club for their opening round. Following Barker and Murphy and rounding out the top five are Steve Poulson (38), Bill Probst (38) Brent Fenstermaker (37) and Brent Marriott (37).
The Utah Golf Association WinterChamps tournament uses a modified Stableford Scoring system. Complete opening round results for all flights can be found on the UGA website:
