Steady Summerhays Leads by Two Going Into Final Round of Mayakoba Classic

Daniel Summerhays went into the third round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic in a three way tie for the lead and emerged as the two leader going into the final round Sunday. The PGA Tour event is being played at the El Cameleon Golf Course in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Summerhays played flawless golf in posting a bogey free four under par tally of 67. In his first two rounds he shot 69-65 and now stands at 12 under par 201 and two shots ahead of Chris Stroud who has shot 69-66-68-203.

Will Claxton and Greg Owen were tied with Summerhays going into the third round, but Claxton finished with a 71 and now trails Summerhays by four and Owen shot 73 and is six back.

Summerhays credited his solid driving as the key to setting up his scoring and “my plan for the final round is to continue just what I’ve been doing. I feel confident and I’m looking forward to leading going into the final round. We’ll see what I can do.”

The final round of the tournament will be televised on the Golf Channel beginning 5 p.m. Mountain Time.

First place carries a $666,000 paycheck and would open the door for Summerhays with additional exemptions to future tournaments.

His many fans and followers in Utah will be watching and cheering him on in what could be another great landmark in his already glowing golf achievements.
