Utah Wins Southwest Matches By 15 Point Margin
Utah took the lead opening day of the Southwest Matches and then increased the lead the final two days to win the title by a 15-point margin. Colorado edged Arizona for second place, 57-56, and host Southern Nevada finished last with 47 points.
Utah scored the most points in all three rounds.
The four-ball format with a scoring system of one point per hole won proved very interesting. All four-ball matches were nine holes, with two matches per day for three days. The tournament was played at Cascata Golf Club in Las Vegas with cold and wind hampering play the first two days.
Bill Probst and Todd Barker teamed for an eight under par tally in their two matchs, but the most points of the final day for Utah were scored by Brent Marriott and Mike Hacker with seven points.
