Utah Widens Southwest Lead Going Into Final Round
Utah established a ten point lead after the first round of the Southwest Matches and increased it to 11 points today in the second round at Cascata Golf Club in Las Vegas. The final round will be held Wednesday and any team hoping for a come from behind win would be like hoping the ball will come up green on the roulette table.
Utah had a great first day with 29 points, but still chose to switch playing partners for the second day. Utah scored only 21 points with the new lineup, but it was still better than the other three teams.
Darrin Overson and Greg Wojtkun led Utah’s second day with seven points. Overson and Overton were the top scoring Utahns in the first round with 10 points.
The four-ball format has a scoring system that credits one point for every hole won. The matches include interplay between each of the teams equally and there are two nine-hole matches for all players.
