Utah Grabs Big First Round Lead at Southwest Matches
Utah has a big lead after the first round of the Southwest Matches being played at Cascata Golf Club in Las Vegas. Utah racked up 29 points with Arizona a distant second at 20 points. Colorado is in third place with 18 and host Southern Nevada has 16. The tournament continues Tuesday and Wednesday.
The entire tournament is being played in nine-hole four-ball matches. Each team wins a point for winning a hole. Teams change opponents after each nine holes. Each team is required to have four players over 50 years of age.
Darrin Overson holed out for an eagle two on the first hole of the tournament and combined with Jared Overton the two were about ten under par for the day and won ten points.
Dan Horner and Greg Wojtkun were about seven under par and scored eight points.
Utah’s 29 points came as follows:
