Summerhays Looking Forward to Second Time Around on PGA Tour
For the second straight year Daniel Summerhays earned his PGA Tour Card and he doesn’t want to have to play in ‘golf’s toughest tournament’ ever again. This year at the PGA Tour Q-School he shot an opening round 64 to share the first round lead and that enabled him to play with less ‘white knuckle’ time than most of the players in the field. Still, during 108 holes over six days there are likely to be hills and valleys and ‘old man bogey’ is always looking over your shoulder.
Summerhays earned his card with a two-stroke cushion and is looking forward to next year.
“I should be better next year. I’m much better prepared now, and last year’s experience on many of the same courses should make me a better player. I’m looking forward to the second time around,” he said.
Meanwhile, another Cougar alum, Dean Wilson, didn’t fare as well. He was seven under par after three rounds, which would have been good enough to earn his card had he played even par from then on, but he didn’t. He played the last three rounds seven over and now has his 2012 tournament schedule wide open.
Key scores were as follows:
1st- 415- Brendon Todd, 71-68-69-71-68-68 (All six rounds under par) -17.
18th- 422- Daniel Summerhays, 64-73-72-74-68-71. -10.
93rd- 432- Dean Wilson, 67-71-71-73-76-74 even par.
