Summerhays, Wilson in 19th Place at Halfway Point of PGA Tour School
At the halfway point of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament Daniel Summerhays and Dean Wilson each stand at seven under par and are tied for 19th place. If they are still in 19th place when the next three grueling rounds are over they will be elated because everyone who finishes 25th or higher are the winners in this tournament—they earn their PGA Tour Card for 2012.
This is the refiner’s fire, and each round the temperature goes up.
Summerhays shot a 64 in the opening round and shared first place. He shot 73 in the second round and slid only to fifth place. Today he shot 72 and scooted down to 19th place. He triple bogeyed the last hole, which was the ninth hole on the Stadium Course. Had he parred that hole he would be near the top of the leader board again, but instead he is lingering too close for comfort at the 25th place mark, which is just one stroke higher.
He got off to a sizzling start with birdies on the first three holes, followed by a par and then another birdie. He bogeyed 16 and 18 to finish the first nine with a 34. He birdied the first two holes on his back nine to go to four under again, and then the triple bogey ruined the round and kept his feet to the fire.
Dean Wilson shot an opening round 67 and followed it up with back-to-back 71s. His third round was marred by a double bogey on the tenth hole, but he finished birdie-birdie to stay under the 25th place bar.
The next three rounds of the six round tournament will be televised on the golf channel.
