Summerhays In Thick of Chase for Wyndham Title, Spot in FedEx

Daniel Summerhays is in fifth place and only three shots out of the lead going into the final round of the Wyndham Championship, the final PGA Tour event leading into the series of FedEx tournaments. The final round will be televised Sunday on Channel Two.
Summerhays has fired steady rounds of 66-65-68-199. The former BYU standout’s best finish, a tie for 11th at the Bob Hope Classic, came in his second start. He’s played in 24 events and only made seven cuts all year. Summerhays came into the week ranked 178th in the FedExCup. A victory could catapult him up to 60th.
The leader is Webb Simpson who caught fire on a five hole stretch of the back nine when he had four birdies and an eagle. He has had rounds of 66-65-64-195.
He was on everyone’s radar this week, and so far, Wake Forest graduate Webb Simpson hasn’t disappointed.
Simpson eagled the par-5 15th on Saturday — his third eagle in three days – to hit 13 under and grab a one-shot lead as the final groups make their way through Sedgefield late Saturday. He then added a birdie on the 16th to get to 14 under.
Simpson has played the par-5s in an incredible 9 under for the week: Three eagles, three birdies (there are only two par-5s on the course).
A win by Simpson would send him to third in the FedExCup standings. In 87 PGA TOUR starts, he still hasn’t won, but he’s already finished second twice and racked up 12 top-10s.
