Carl Jensen Wins Art City Amateur

By Jim Rayburn
By sinking a delicate downhill birdie putt Sunday on the final hole, Carl Jensen finally grabbed the Art City Amateur title that has eluded him by a stroke or two for so many years.
The 6-foot putt on Hobble Creek’s par-5 18th gave Jensen a one-shot win over Jared Overton, who shot a final-round 67 to put up a 36-hole total of 5 under par in the clubhouse. Jensen knew exactly what Overton had posted, and knew he had to make a birdie on the finishing hole to avoid a playoff. Jensen shot a final-round 67 to go with his opening-round 69 to finish at 6 under par.

Tying for third at 4-under 138 were were Hobble Creek’s Colten Lamb (71-67) and BYU golfer Daniel Reid, who shot the tournament’s low round of 66 on Sunday. Steve Poulson (69-70) finished alone in fifth at 3-under par. Shad Thomas, who led after Round 1 with a 67, was tied with Jensen at 5 under on the final tee box, hit his drive out of bounds on No. 18 Sunday and finished in a tie for sixth with Alton Anderson and Dane Jensen. At 1-under 141 were Joe Webber, Joseph Harrison, Nick Drost and Darrin Overson.
