Killpack Repeats As Provo Open Champion

By Jim Rayburn for Fairways Media

Former BYU Cougar Nick Killpack needed a sand-save bogey on the final hole to edge former college teammate Clay Ogden by one shot to take home the Provo Open title for the second straight year at the Reserve at East Bay.
Ogden caught Killpack at 16-under par when he rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-3 14th. Killpack went back up a shot when he poured in a 40-foot eagle putt on No. 16, while Ogden tapped in a 2-foot birdie putt.
It looked like Killpack could coast in for a victory when he knocked it close on the par-3 17th for an easy two-putt par while Ogden’s tee shot found the water left, resulting in a bogey. But when Killpack hit is drive into the lake left on No. 18, his two-shot lead suddenly wasn’t so comfortable. Ogden, however, missed the green short on his second shot and settled for par, while Killpack’s fourth shot from the greenside bunker stopped about 30 inches from the cup, leaving him a tap-in for the victory.
Killpack’s 199 17-under total was good for the repeat win. Ogden, with a 54-hole score of 200, finished in second. Casey Fowles (202) finished in third and Dustin Pimm (203) took fourth. Chris Moody and Zach Johnson tied for fifth at 206.
While Clay Ogden fell a shot short for the second-straight year, younger brother Cole Ogden earned the low-amateur honor. His score of 208 (70-72-66) was two better than Kyle Chappel, four better than Jon Christensen, Clay Bingham and Mason Casper, and five up on Tyler Weight.
