Rules and
Regulations
Eligibility-
All entrants must be members of the UGA. Handicap- Must have USGA Indexes
of 9.9 or lower as of May 15, 2008
Rules- Rules of the USGA shall prevail, subject to local rules
prescribed by the committee. Local rules, condition of the competition,
local rules addendum, and pace of play guidelines will be posted at the
UGA website: www.uga.org.
Players are responsible to know the rules.
Entry fee- $60 for the qualifying round. All successful qualifiers
must pay an additional $80 to advance to the finals. Exempt players must
pay an $80 entry fee. An additional $5 must be added if paying by credit
card.
Withdrawals and refunds - If for any reason an entrant must withdraw
and he notifies the UGA at least 48 hours ahead of time, a refund will
be issued less a $10 handling fee. No refunds will be granted for withdrawals
within 48 hours of tee time.
Match Play Commitment- Any player who intends to withdraw from
the tournament during any portion of match play must do so before the
match play field is determined. Failure to do so may result in sanctions
against the player.
Dress and conduct- All participants must adhere to the dress and
conduct regulations. Golf shirts (including dressy mock turtle shirts)
and full length slacks must be worn at all sites. No
shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, denims or levis will be permitted.
Sandal style golf shoes are not permitted. Proper respect of club facilities
and proper conduct on the golf course is required. The committee has the
right to determine conformity. Penalty for failure to conform is disqualification.
Caddies and Carts- Caddies are permitted. Caddies may wear appropriate
shorts, but must wear a collared shirt. Carts
are permitted, but only one cart seat is allowed per player/caddie throughout
the tournament. If the player rides, the caddie walks, and vice-versa.
Spectators are not allowed to ride in player's cart.
Entry deadline- All entries must be received at the UGA office
no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 23rd. Entries will be stamped according
to date and time of entry. A waiting list will be established for late
entries to replace withdrawals.
Pairings- Pairings will be made by the committee. Where it is an
option requests for morning or afternoon times will try to be honored.
Each player is responsible to know his tee time. Tee times will be posted
on www.uga.org
one week ahead of qualifying date or by calling the UGA office at
(801) 563-0400. There will NOT be a mailing of tee times.
Qualifying sites- A total of 220 players, plus ties, will advance
to the finals. The number of qualifying spots at each site will be determined
by proportion and by the strength of the field at the sites as determined
by the committee. Some sites may have separate morning and afternoon qualifyings
depending on the size of the field. Those qualifyings will be divided
equally by handicap.
The final qualifying- Those who qualify, along with the exempt
players, will advance to a 36-hole qualifying at Soldier Hollow on Wednesday,
July 9, and Thursday, July 10. Both the Gold and Silver Courses will be
played during the qualifying. The low 31 qualifiers will advance into
match play, along with last year's champion, Nick
Nelson. There will be two rounds of match play on Friday and Saturday,
and a 36-hole championship match on Sunday. All matches will be played
on the Silver Course. The final 32 match play players are required to
attend the Breakfast of Champions on Friday morning, July 11th at Soldier
Hollow.
Qualifying Site Assignments- Participants must qualify at the site
where their home club has been designated to participate. When the entries
reach the optimum numb er at each site all later entries will be transferred
to other sites at the discretion of the committee. Requests to transfer
to a site other than the assigned site will be considered and honored
if deemed reasonable. Requests to transfer to a regional that is already
full will not be honored.
Spikeless shoes- Metal spiked shoes are not permitted if prohibited
by the host course.
Cellular telephones- Telephones are not permitted to be in use
on the golf course by players or spectators except to call for a rules
question.

Doug Bybee, Mark Davis, Mitch Hyer, Tom Christensen, Steve Borget, Craig
Ridd, Arlen Peacock, Todd Barker, Darrin Overson, Gregg Oliphant, Michael
McRae, Nick Nelson.
2- Last three runnerups- Scott Clark (2007), Jon Morgan (2005)
3- 2007 Quarterfinalists : Chris Gresh, Chance Cota, Brady Stanger,
Robbie Fillmore, Dan Horner.
4- 2007 UGA Senior Amateur Champion: Steve Poulson
5- 2008 UGA Winterchamps champion: Nick Killpack
6- 2008 UGA Senior Match Play Champion: To be determined
7- Top three in 2007 UGA Mid-Amateur: Ryan Smith, Scott Clark,
Herb Lyons
8- 2007 UGA Masters champion: Steve Borget
9- 2007 UGA Tournament of Champions champions: Steve Poulson
10- 2007 Medalist at UGA 4-Man Team- Kirk Siddens
11- Top four ranked players on 2008 Player Performance Ranking as of
June 2nd who are otherwise not exempt. To be determined.
12- 2008 UGA Junior Amateur champion: To be determined.
13- 2007- UGA/PGA Senior Open, low amateur- Todd Barker
14- Champions of all UGA PPR Tournaments since last State Am- Robbie
Fillmore, Nick Killpack,
John Busby, Kirk Siddens, Ryan Smith, Jeff Jones.
15- Host Club- Soldier Hollow. Reigning club champion plus one
other.
