UGA

Public Links Team League

Rules and Regulations

1.     The league is under the direction of the Utah Golf Association.

2.     Each team shall designate a team captain for all communications and the team captain must make contact with the UGA, (801) 563-0400 or e-mail: uga@uga.org, and provide us with his contact information (i.e. phone, e-mail address, street address, etc.)

3.     A seeding tournament shall begin the season.  The date and time shall be determined by the Utah Golf Association.  The seeding tournament is at Stonebridge GC, April 13, 2002 for the 2002 season.  Times will be available on the Internet two weeks prior to the tournament.

4.     The format of the seeding tournament is stroke play with 6 out of the 8 lowest 18-hole scores counting toward your total team score.  (i.e. If your team scores are 72, 72, 89, 78, 91, 83, 75, 80, your total team score would be 72 + 72 + 75 + 78 + 80 +83 = 460.)  In case of a tie, seeding will be determined by lot.

5.     The seeding tournament will determine the position each team is placed in the 32-team double elimination bracket.  The defending champion of the league will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament.  In the event the defending champion is not playing in the league, the seeding tournament will determine all positions.

6.     The winner of the 32-team double elimination bracket will be declared the 8-Man Team Public Links Champion.  Once a team has been defeated twice in the tournament, that team is out for the season.

7.     The scoring in the matches will be nine points per foursome. Player A1 plays Player B1 for one point for the front, one point for the back, and one point for the 18. Player A2 plays player B2 for the same, and Player A1 and A2 play players B1 and B2 in a four-ball match for one point for the front, one point for the back, and one point for the 18. All other foursomes play under the same point system.  In case there is a tie, please refer to the TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE on last page.

8.     The professional, or one of the assistants, must play in the number one position unless they cannot play, in which case an amateur will fill the number one position.  Only professionals that are officially affiliated with that course are eligible to compete on the team.

9.     All team members must be members or multi-club members of the club and have their UGA membership dues paid for current year before a match begins.  Matches are subject to disqualification if all players are not current paid members of the UGA.  All players must be 18 years of age or older.

10.            Each player pays for his golf.

11.            The captains shall determine the playing positions and are encouraged to determine the order of play by skill level, but that is not mandatory. The captains shall exchange lineups simultaneously prior to the start of the match.

12.            Play shall be by USGA rules, including USGA approved golf clubs and golf balls. The four-ball match, not the individual matches, shall determine honor of play.

13.            The official time, date and place of all matches will be determined by the UGA.  No team will play on its home course.  The schedule will be available after the seeding tournament has concluded on the website at www.uga.org/tournaments/team_play/8_man/ or by calling the UGA office at (801) 563-0400.  All matches will be scheduled on Friday’s only and will start at 1:00 p.m. and after.

14.            No match shall be postponed except by UGA officials.

15.            The match is considered a forfeit if any team fails to have at least seven players.

16.            A player may not play on more than ONE 8-man team during the season; this includes Country Club, Country Club Senior, Public Links and Public Links Senior teams.

17.            All matches should begin in reverse order; i. e. the 7th and 8th players should be in the first foursome.

18.            The lower seeded team shall have the honor on the first hole.

19.            A club may enter two teams in the league, but the rosters cannot be interchangeable.  Once a player, including the professionals, plays for one of the club’s teams he cannot play for the other club team.

20.            The UGA will be the arbiter of any disagreements on rules.
