CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Thunderbird women’s golf team will return to the links this coming Monday, as they will participate in the 2017 Battle at Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nevada.

Fall Recap

The T-Birds have a lot to be excited about heading into the spring season after a very successful fall campaign.

Reigning Big Sky Player of the Year Taylor Viquelia continues to impress as the senior averaged 75.82 shots per round with a low of 73. Her best finish of the Fall came at the Hobble Creek Classic, where she finished tied for fourth and helped lead the team to a third place finish.

Freshman Kamonwan “Poy” Prasurtwong had several breakout performances for the Thunderbirds in just her first season for the team. She had the lowest round average for SUU at 73, with a low round of 68. She finished second in the field at the Hobble Creek Classic, and tied for second overall at the Rose City Collegiate and the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate.

Poy was named Big Sky Athlete of the Week three times during the fall.

Sophomore Miranda Reyes capped the Fall with a strong performance in the Lady Mustang Invitational, finishing in a tie for eighth and carding an albatross.

Words From Coach Church

“We’ve got a very strong lineup, probably the strongest in school history,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “We’ve got any number of players that are capable of winning tournaments. Taylor got off to a little bit of a slow start for her after such a strong start last year, but really improved throughout the fall. Obviously Poy had a great start to her year. We’re challenging Poy to maintain that level, which is a lot of pressure for a freshman, but she’s capable of doing it. In addition to Taylor and Poy, Miranda Reyes is having a really strong year and we’re helped by our freshmen Kyla Smith and Nicole Jones who spent a lot of time in the starting five.”

Upcoming Events

The Thunderbirds will start their spring season with the Battle at Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nevada, and then will be back on the links in early march for the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona.

SUU will play two event in St. George this spring. They will play in the 2017 BYU at Entrada Classic before hosting their own Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational starting on March 16.
