UVU MGolf | Utah Valley Places Eighth at PING Cougar Classic, Bursey Ties for 12th

PROVO, Utah—The Utah Valley University men's golf team finished eighth in the 11-team field at the PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club after carding a three-round score of 3-over-par 867 (292-282-293). The Wolverines shot 5-over-par 293 in Tuesday's final round.
The Wolverines (+3) finished in eighth ahead of Boise State (+10), Pacific (+18) and Westminster (+42). Tournament host BYU won the tournament at 22-under-par 842. Loyola Marymount (-14) finished second, while Utah (-12) placed third.
“It was a really frustrating way to end the Cougar Classic,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “We can't seem to find any consistency. We left too many shots out there down the stretch.”
Blair Bursey was Utah Valley's top finish as he finished in a tie for 12th with a three-round score of 3-under-par 213 (74-68-71). The sophomore carded a final-round score of 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday with three birdies. The 12th place showing marks Bursey's fifth top-15 finish of the season.
JT Timmons finished in a tie for 19th after carding a final-round 3-over-par 75 to finish the tournament with a two-day score of even par 216 (73-68-75). The 19th place finish is Timmons' fourth top-20 showing of the season.
Ariel Elftman-Hanson and Cedric Laverdure each tied for the 47th spot on the individual leaderboard at 8-over-par 224. Elftman-Hanson shot a final-round score of 8-over-par 80, while Laverdure carded a final-round 5-over-par 77.
Gabe Lysen shot his lowest round of the tournament, carding a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday. The freshman tallied an impressive five birdies on his final-round scorecard. Lysen finished the tournament in a tie for 50th with a three-round score of 9-over-par 225 (77-78-70).
Dalton Jackson, who played in the tournament as an individual, finished 61st with a three-round score of 16-over-par 232 (76-76-80).
Utah Valley has one final tune-up before WAC Championship play. The Wolverines travel to California to compete at the El Macero Classic, March 13-14, at El Macero Country Club in Davis, California. The 2017 WAC Championship takes place April 28-30 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
