Utah Valley Defends Title at Pat Hicks Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah—The Utah Valley University men's golf team defended its team title at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational after shooting a final-round score of 6-under-par 282 to finish ahead of 11 other teams with a two-day mark of 16-under-par 560 (278-282).
The win marks the third team title for the Wolverines in as many years as the team won the Loyola Invitational in 2015 and the Pat Hicks Invitational in both 2016 and 2017. The team title is head coach Chris Curran's fourth career tournament win making him the winningest golf coach in UVU history.
“It feels amazing to repeat as champions,” said Curran. “The way we played, you would never know we are coming off our winter break. The guys stepped up and got it done today.”
The Wolverines shot a two-day score of 16-under-par 560 to finish nine strokes ahead of second place Utah State (569). Long Beach State finished third at 574, while Boston College placed fourth at 577.
Pat Hicks defending individual champion JT Timmons led the Wolverines with a two-round score of 6-under-par 138 (72-66) to finish the tournament tied for third. The senior golfer carded the low round of the day on Tuesday, shooting a 6-under-par 66.
Ariel Elftman-Hanson tied for fifth with a two-day score of 5-under-par 139 (71-68). The junior wrapped up the tournament with a final round score of 4-under-par 68. Freshman Gabe Lysen carded a 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish the event tied for eighth with a two-day score of 2-under-par 142 (69-73).
Blair Bursey tied for 13th with a two-round score of even par 144 (67-76). Cedric Laverdure shot a two-day total of 2-over-par 146 (71-75) to finish in a tie for 24th in the 77-player field.
Payton Stott and Connor Copeland played as individuals in the tournament as their scores did not count towards the team score. Stott finished in a tie for 13th with a two-round score of 143 (74-69), while Copeland carded a two-day total of 13-over-par 157 (73-84).
Utah Valley continues spring play at the Loyola Invitational in Goodyear, Arizona, Feb. 25-27.
