Thunderbirds Wrap Competition In Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Thunderbird men’s golf team wrapped up competition at the 2017 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon.
For the second day in a row junior Fidel Concepcion shot a one-under 71 to bring his three-day total to 217, which was good enough to finish the intercollegiate in a tie for 22nd place.
Freshman Jake Vincent had the lowest round of the day for the Thunderbirds on Sunday, shooting a two-under 70 to bring his three-day total to 221.
Concepcion and Vincent have finished first and second respectively for the Thunderbirds in both of the events they have competed in this young spring season.
Christian Karren shot his low round of the tournament on Sunday, shooting a 76. Karren continued to improve as the weekend went on, going from 86, to 81 to Sunday’s finish.
Humza Hameed had the fourth-lowest round for the Thunderbirds on Sunday, shooting an 83. He shot 253 combined this weekend.
Ali Hameed finished his weekend with an 87, shooting a 246 as a three-day total.
As a team, the Thunderbirds shot 921 (322, 299, 300) over the three days of the event at The Classic Club.
The Oregon Ducks won the event, shooting a team score of 838. They were followed by Colorado (847) and Texas Tech (850).
A pair of Oregon players tied for first at the event, as both Wyndham Clark and Norman Xiong shot an 11-under 205.
The Thunderbirds will be back at it on the 27th, when they will travel to Long Beach, California, to participate in the 2017 Del Walker Invitational.
