Mother nature sure wasn’t going to make this event easy for the ladies. Day 1 brought 20 mph winds with chilly temperatures making the already long course even harder.

Sue Nyhus, Karen Seaman, and Elizabeth Jones would all go low on day one shooting 72, 73, 74 respectably to keep the championship close.

Day two would bring much tougher conditions with a good portion of the round being played in the rain, with temperatures in the upper 40’s. Julie McMullin would take advantage of the course conditions and shoot a -3, 67 which was 14 strokes lower than her first round bringing her two-day total to +8, 148.

Nyhus wouldn’t let off the gas pedal though and shot a +4, 74 to bring her two-day total to +6, 146. This was enough for Sue Nyhus to claim her third UGA Senior Women’s State Amateur Championship in the last four years!

In Flight 2, Wendy Jerman claimed 1st Gross with a two-day total of +28, 168 and Genny Mertens claimed 1st Gross in Flight 3 with a total of +40, 180.

The UGA would like to thank all the participants who competed in the 2017 UGA Senior Women’s State Amateur Championship. We would also like to thank River Oaks and all their staff for being such great hosts!
