Each month, the UGA spotlights one of our devoted volunteers to express our deep appreciation for all they do and to help you, our loyal members, become well acquainted with them. The month of September features one of the UGA’s course raters, Mary Elggren.

Mary Elggren grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is currently married with five kids. Mary started playing golf in college where she attended The University of Utah. She graduated from The U’s college of nursing to become a nurse and give back to her beloved community.

Today, Mary is a retired nurse and a member of Hidden Valley Country Club. She is still passionate about the game of golf and continues to play about at least three times per week. When Mary is off the golf course, she enjoys reading and watching her grandchildren play golf and baseball. One of Mary’s favorite things to do is go on a vacation to explore all of the different golf courses around the world.

Mary started getting involved with the UGA by joining the course rating team nine years ago. Her friend, Judy Allen, USGA/UGA Rules official, she credits for being the reason she got involved. Mary feels an obligation to help support the UGA and truly enjoys course rating.

The Utah Golf Association thanks its volunteers for sacrificing their time and energy to help the UGA fulfill its mission to promote interest in the game of golf by encouraging, organizing, supporting, sponsoring and administering golfing activities and programs.
