By Megan Terry

Mitchell Schow Jr. and Brandon Kida qualified for the U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills. Both rounds were played on Wednesday, July 20th at Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah.

Schow started the day after Round 1 at one-under 71. He shot even par on the front with two bogeys and two birdies and one under on the back with a birdie on No. 13. With six birdies on the front nine and two on the back during his afternoon round, Schow claimed the first spot at eight under par nearly bogey free to card his second-round 65 and finish at 136 (-8).

Brandon Kida shot a first-round score of 72, placing him in a good position to make a move during the afternoon round, which is exactly what he did. Kida returned ready as ever and shot a bogey-free 65 to come from behind and capture the second qualifying spot with a two-round total of seven-under 137.

Kenny You and 2016 Utah State Amateur champion Patrick Fishburn are the first and second alternates. You was consistent with two 69’s, while Fishburn shot 70 in the morning and 69 in the afternoon.
