Riverbend Overcomes Drifters in UGA Women’s Team Play Final

The 2016 UGA Women’s Team Play season included 12 teams, all of which included fierce, experienced competitors. Only four teams advanced to the semifinal found. Riverbend defeated Bonneville in their semifinal match 20-16 to advance to the final match. The Drifters seemed to have no issues making their way to the final match by beating the Park City Parsavers 26-10.
Margene Wrigley and Janice Nelson were the difference-makers for the Riverbend women’s team play team in their final match against the Drifters on Friday, September 30th at Valley View Golf Course.
Wrigley secured 2.5 points in her singles match against Rich, and Nelson came out with 3 points in her match against Frazier. The duo secured all 3 points with their four-ball score to take 8.5 out of 9 points and were the catalyst in taking the UGA Women’s Team Play Final victory for Riverbend.
Riverbend’s Diane Booth secured all 3 points over Piper Remington, and she and Riverbend Captain Kathy Dunn managed to earn 1 four-ball point to start the day. In the third match, Lola Britton and Ginny Oleszek rounded up 4 points for the team, setting the match at 16.5 to 10.5 prior to the fourth and final match.
The Drifters put up a good fight by winning two of the four total matches by one point each, 5-4. Kim Gibson and Brenda Paris secured all 3 points in their own individual matches against Riverbend to help keep the Drifters in contention.
However, Sandy Kinser of Riverbend secured all three points in her match against Elma Neiley, and she and partner Sheila Alexander closed out the match over Neiley and Paris by earning 1.5 four-ball points for the team, and Riverbend clinched the 2016 season victory 21-15.
