Rasmussen, Schow tie for low medalist and secure their ticket to the U.S. Amateur Championship

Just a few days after the dramatic conclusion of the 2017 Utah State Amateur Championship, many of the top Utah golfers were battling it out at Alpine Country Club for two qualifying spots for the U.S. Amateur Championship in August. After 36 holes on the day, the top two qualifying spots and low co-medalist honors were claimed by Rhett Rasmussen and Mitchell Schow, both with a gross score of 10-under-par 134.
It was an impressive two rounds for both players, each shooting a round of 69 (-3) and a round of 65 (-7). Schow’s qualifying rounds were showcased by 11 total birdies on the day and an impressive eagle on the 535-yard, par-5 hole 14. Rasmussen’s round was almost identical to Schow, with an equally impressive 11 birdies on the day and an eagle on the same hole 14. Both players deserved their qualifying spots and advancement to the U.S. Amateur Championship at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
The rest of the field wasn’t far behind, as the first alternate spot was claimed by Patrick Fishburn with a 9-under total score of 135 (65, 70). Fishburn had a great day himself, playing a bogey-free round that featured nine birdies. The second alternate spot was secured by Fidel Concepcion with a 137 total gross score (-7), shooting a Round 1 72, and Round 2 67.
There were 16 total players under par for the day out of the 70 player field.
