Northern Utah Veterans on Course 2016 Season Concludes at Hobble Creek

By Megan Terry

The Utah Golf Foundation's 2016 Northern Utah Veterans on Course season concluded Thursday, August 11th at Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah. The event was full a month in advance, and as many as four veterans were on the waitlist. The program continues gaining popularity every month, so much so that a fourth event in Southern Utah has been added to the 2016 schedule.

Men and women of all military branches and ranks received putting, short game, and long game lessons from six volunteer PGA professionals, including Hobble Creek Head Professional Craig Norman. They then played nine holes and listened to retired U.S. Air Force Major General Pat Condon and retired U.S. Army Specialist Bryant Jacobs speak during a social gathering.

“It was amazing to see the comradery at the event,” expressed Bryant Jacobs. “Even though most of the veterans didn’t know each other, no one was ever isolated. The program allows veterans to network with other vets who understand what they’ve been through and escape the stressors of the real world.”

The Vets Club Depot, a free program offering donated equipment to veterans, was available to all participants. Several veterans new to the game received their first complete sets and other necessary equipment prior to the start of the event. The Vets Club Depot is managed by The First Tee of Utah Executive Director Paul Pugmire and is located at The First Tee of Utah’s office location (680 West 3300 South Salt Lake City, Utah 84119). The Depot will be present at every Veterans on Course event. Donations can be dropped off at The First Tee of Utah Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Golf The Round pro shop seven days a week between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The 2016 Veterans on Course season includes one more event in Southern Utah at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club. More information will be posted to utahgolffoundation.org, on all UGA and Utah Golf Foundation social media platforms, and emailed to all past participants. The field size will be capped at 60 participants. For information regarding Veterans on Course and the Vets Club Depot, contact Utah Golf Association Programs Administrator Megan Terry at 801-563-0400 or [email protected].
