Myatt Green Happy To Be Head Pro at Coral Canyon

Myatt Green, the likeable and popular new head pro at Coral Canyon is excited about the golf course and the staff and ‘hopes to continue the great reputation that has been established at Coral Canyon over the years.”

Green, the son of famous touring professional Hubert Green, has been a professional since 2001 when he began working at East Bay Golf Course with Kean Ridd.

In 2003 he made a career changing move when he accepted a position with Vanguard Management and became the assistant professional at the prestigious Thanksgiving Point golf course.

He has been with Vanguard Management ever since, including a one-year stint as the head professional at the new Sand Hollow Golf Course in Hurricane, and now has moved to Coral Canyon when Vanguard purchased the course a few months ago.

“I’m the longest tenured employee of Vanguard and I’ve loved working with them and they’ve treated me well. It’s the main reason I shifted to Coral Canyon.  They are a progressive management team that is going places,” Green said.

“Glen Evans has been the superintendent of Coral Canyon since it opened in 2000, and it has always been in top condition. He has agreed to stay and work with Vanguard and that assures a continuation of quality care for the course,” Green said.

The assistant superintendent is Don Polich.

“We also have a good pro staff in Kash Kennedy and Casey Fowles and they will continue with us,” Green added. “Kash has worked at the course since 2005 and Casey started here in 2008.”

Non-professional staffers include Louise DeVitto and Jim Snyder.

Green was born in Pasadena, California in 1975, graduated from BYU in December of 2000 with a degree in business management, and has three children.

Coral Canyon opened in 2000 under the ownership of Suncor Corporation based in Phoenix, Arizona. Gary White was the general manager of Coral Canyon until the sale to Vanguard.  Mark Whetzel, Walt Willey, and Brandon Howard are the principals in Vanguard Management. In addition to owning Coral Canyon they also have management agreements at Sky Mountain, Thanksgiving Point, and The Ranches.

Coral Canyon is a desert course and a hybrid between links and target style, but mostly a links course. It is fun to play and not too harsh and punitive if you play the proper tees for your ability.

The black tees are long and challenging for the best players. They are 7,070 yards at an elevation of 3,000 feet. The rating and slope is 73.5, 142.

The blues are 6527 yards and rate 70.7 and slope at 137.

The whites, the most commonly played tees, are 5,993 yards with a 68.3 rating and a 125 slope.

The red tees for women are 5, 52 yards, rate at 67.6, and slope at 118.

It is a very walkable course, but challenging in three places, the uphill fourth hole, the trek from nine green to ten tee, and the uphill finishing hole.

Keith Foster was the architect. He worked with Arthur Hills on Wingpointe’s design.

Coral Canyon has a beautiful clubhouse and excellent food service. Carolyn Cantowine is the director of food services.

The driving range is good, but the practice putting green is too sloped for serious practice. It’s located near the first tee and is adequate for a few warmup putts. There is also a practice green for chipping and bunker play.

Coral Canyon has a volunteer group that helps with the starting tee and marshalling duties. Ron Romney is the director of those services and Bruce Gordon is his assistant.

Current pricing is $95 on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, $100 on Thursday, and $105 on Friday and Saturday. The twilight rate is $48 Sunday  through Thursday and $58 on Friday and Saturday.
