At the conclusion of each team play season, the UGA hosts a match between the UGA Women’s Team Play league champions and the women’s country club team play league champions. The UGA Women’s Team Play season concluded on September 30th at Valley View Golf Course when Riverbend Golf Course defeated the Drifters 21-15 to earn the league title and an additional match against Hidden Valley Country Club, the 2016 women’s private team play champions.

Unlike the regular season, the public versus private match is played using the country club rules and format. There are 36 points possible per foursome, two points per hole. On each hole, the player with the lowest net score from the public team plays the player with the lowest net score from the country club team.

The match took place on Wednesday, October 12th at Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah. Hidden Valley A Team Captain Jean LaBrie and playing partner Sharon Headman earned 23.5 out of 36 possible points against Riverbend’s Diane Booth and Peggy Rueckert, allowing HVCC to gain the lead early in the game.

Sue Flaim and October UGA Volunteer Spotlight Lisa Meeks (click her name to view her spotlight story) widened Hidden Valley’s lead by rounding up 22 points versus Riverbend Team Captain Kathy Dunn and Margene Wrigley.

In the third match, Riverbend’s Janice Nelson and Terry Wiseman narrowed Hidden Valley’s lead from 19 points to 16 points when they managed to bring in 19.5 out of 36 points over Mary Elggren and Joyce Friesema.

The final match to decide the champion was a nail biter. Still, Hidden Valley teammates Becky Roberts and Karen Granato hung on for dear life from start to finish and defeated Marlene Kirkpatrick and Sheila Alexander of Riverbend by one point to secure the title for Hidden Valley Country Club.
