Eighty competitors braved the wind and cool temperatures on Monday, June 12th at the East Bay Utah State Amateur Qualifier for a chance to advance to the championship. Despite the unfavorable weather, Chris Hermansen carded a three-under 69 to top the leader board and earn the win. Hermansen finished the front nine with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to shoot 35 going out. Three birdies and an eagle on the thirteenth hole helped him post a two-under 34 on the back to claim the medalist title and earn the first qualifying spot.

With Hermansen, 25 players qualified for the two-day stroke play qualifying portion of the 119th Utah State Amateur Championship at Ogden Golf & Country Club and Hubbard Golf Course at Hill Air Force Base. Included in the 25 is 18-year-old Naomi Soifua who carded 73 (+1) to advance as the only female competitor thus far.

A seven-way playoff at 79 (+7) determined the final five qualifying spots and the first and second alternates. Tyler Savage, Aaron Gibbs, Troy Blackburn, Jeremy Martin and Jared Overton clinched the five, while Matthew Carter claimed first alternate and Ryker Smith was dubbed second alternate.
