Defending Champion Patrick Fishburn defeated Nik Parcell 6&5 to advance to Thursday’s Round of 32. Parcell was 1-up through the first hole, but Fishburn took off running and won three holes in a row starting on No. 4 to go 3-up through 6. Patrick remained up the remainder of the match to continue his Utah State Amateur winning streak. He will play 2007 Utah State Amateur Champion Nick Nelson in the Round of 32 at 8:42 a.m.

2016 Utah State Am Runner-Up Aaron Smith, also known as “The Comeback King”, won six holes in a row to come from behind and clinch the Round of 32 victory in 19 holes. Jake Godfrey was dormie five until Aaron birdied four of his last five holes to send the match to extra holes. On the 19th hole, Ogden’s par-4 No. 1, Smith made yet another birdie to outdo Godfrey in style. He will play Glen Spencer in the Round of 32 starting at 9:27 a.m.
