Fishburn Claims Golden Spike Am

By: Tanner Clegg, P.J. Boatwright Intern

Patrick Fishburn claimed the Golden Spikes Am played at Eagle Mountain GC over the weekend. Fishburn shot a -2, 69 to win by one stroke over Michael Membrila and Kelton Hirsch. Reed Nielsen and Christopher Romney a +1, 72 to close out the top 5.

Usually this tournament sees lower scores to win the title but difficult conditions would play an affect in the scoring this year. A cold front came through the valley Friday afternoon and in the wake left a strong, cold wind for the players.

Fishburn said, “the course is in the best condition he has ever seen it, but the combination of tough pin placements and the weather played an impact in the tournament.”

He was surprised to see the scores this high when he entered the club house but in the end, he claimed 20 PPR points to put him in the lead of the Men’s PPR Division.

The next men’s PPR event is the U.S. Open Local Qualifier which will be held at The Country Club May 8.
