ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The Thunderbird women’s golf team wrapped up play at the 2016 Lady Mustang Invitational on Sunday afternoon, as they finished in fifth place in their final event on their Fall schedule.

The day was highlighted by Miranda Reyes, who carded the first ever albatross in the history of the women’s golf program on the 18th hole at Cypress Ridge as she carded a two on the closing par-5.

“It’s a nice accomplishment for her and for the program,” SUU head coach Richard Church said.

The albatross helped boost Reyes up 15 spots from her finish on the first day, and she ended up as the top finisher overall for the Thunderbirds. She shot a one-over 73 on Sunday to finish at 151 and in a tie for eighth in the entire field.

As a team the T-Birds shot a 305 on Sunday, which was 10 less strokes than they accounted for on Saturday. They finished the Invitational shooting 620 as a team. They were able to move up one spot from their sixth place finish on Saturday to finish in fifth place.

SUU’s second finisher was Taylor Viquelia, who shot her second straight 77 on Sunday to finish the Invitational with a score of 154. That score put her in 18th place overall in the field.

Poy Prasurtwong was able to move up seven spots from her Saturday finish to end play on Sunday in a tie for 21st in the field. She shot a 156 over the two days of competition. Nicole Jones was the fourth finisher for the Thunderbirds, wrapping up play in a tie for 31st with a 159 over the two days of competition.

Kyla Smith rounded out the scoring for the Thunderbirds, shooting a 166 over the course of the Invitational to finish in a tie for 45th overall.

SUU’s Ashley Stubbs played as an individual in the event, shooting a 171 in the two rounds.

“I was really pleased with the way the girls bounced back today, it wasn’t our best showing of the year but they were able to finish strong and there’s a lot to look forward too in the Spring,” Church said.

With the Fall season in the books the Thunderbirds will turn their attention to the Spring campaign, which will start on February 13th as they will participate in the 2017 Battle at Boulder Creek.
