Concepcion’s 68 Paces Thunderbirds On Final Day In Colorado

ERIE, Colo. – Behind some impressive play by senior Fidel Concepcion, the Thunderbird men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on the Colorado National Golf Club in 13th place.
Concepcion shot a four-under 68 on Tuesday to bring his three-round total to 214 (71, 75, 68). That score shot him up the leaderboard 28 spots, as he finished the event in a tie for 20th. His round was highlighted by an eagle on the final par-five down the stretch, and helped him finish the event at two-under.
Sophomore Ali Hameed, who was first for the Thunderbirds on Monday, finished the day in a tie for 34th after shooting a 74 in his final round to bring his two-day total to 217 (71, 72, 74). Fellow sophomore Jake Vincent showed big improvement on Thursday, shooting a 70 after posting a 76 and a 73 on the first day of the event. Vincent finished the event in a tie for 51st.
Freshmen Samuel Butler (224) and Austin Jaramillo (228) finished fourth and fifth for the Thunderbirds respectively.
The T-Birds shot their lowest round of the event on Tuesday, finishing with a 288. Southern Utah finished with a team score of 870 (290, 292, 288) and in 13th place on the team leaderboard.
The University of Utah claimed victory at the event, shooting a 277 on Tuesday to bring their team score to 842. They won a tiebreaker with the host Colorado Buffalos to claim the win. Ute Kyler Dunkle was on the top of the leaderboard at the end of the event as well, shooting a 64 on Tuesday at finishing with a 202.
The Thunderbirds have two events left on their fall calendar, as they’ll travel to Simi Valley, California for the 2017 Bill Cullum Invitational on October 16.
