Concepcion Leads SUU On Final Day In Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Junior Fidel Concepcion racked up his sixth top-10 finish of the 2016-17 campaign on Saturday, as he finished in a tie for ninth at the Grand Canyon University Invitational.

Concepcion shot a 69 on Saturday, bringing his three-round score to a 209 (71, 69, 69). He was the top finisher for the Thunderbirds at the event.

As a team the Thunderbirds finished in 13th place, shooting a combined 877 (291, 296, 290).

Jake Vincent was second for the Thunderbirds and tied for 23rd on the leaderboard after shooting a 215 (71, 72, 72) through three rounds of play.

The Thunderbirds had a pair of players shoot 227 through three rounds, with both Christian Karren and Ali Hameed hitting that mark. Karren (77, 77, 73) and Hameed (73, 78, 76) finished tied for 76th.

Brodey Payzant was fifth for the team, shooting a 240 (76, 81, 83) and finishing tied for 94th.

Bradley Collet and Humza Hameed both played as individuals in Phoenix. Collet shot a 233 (79, 76, 78) and Hameed shot a 244 (80, 82, 82).

Duke won the team title, finishing with an 829 (287, 269, 273). Followed by Grand Canyon (835) and Eastern Michigan (848).

Grand Canyon’s Billy Comeaux was on top of the leaderboard at the end of the day Saturday, shooting a 203 (67, 68, 68).

SUU has just one more regular-season event before the 2017 Big Sky Championships, as they will travel to Phoenix once again to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy classic.
