OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky Conference released their 2017 Preseason Golf Polls on Thursday, and the Thunderbirds were picked amongst the top on both the men’s side and the women’s side.

The men’s team was picked third in the league by the coaches in the Big Sky Conference. Sacramento State was picked first on the men’s side, followed by Northern Colorado.

The Thunderbird men’s team is led by junior Fidel Concepcion, who was named to the All-Conference First Team following the 2015-16 season.

On the women’s side the Thunderbirds were picked fourth out of the 12 teams in the league. Sacramento State once again holds the top preseason spot, followed by Idaho and Portland State.

SUU’s women are led by reigning Big Sky Player of the Year Taylor Viquelia, as well as freshman Poy Prasurtwong who totaled three Athlete of the Week honors from the Big Sky during the Fall.

Since joining the Big Sky Conference the women’s program at SUU hasn’t finished lower than sixth in the Big Sky Conference Tournament.

“It’s always nice to be recognized by the conference teams as one of the stronger golf programs,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “Now we just need to get on the golf course and play to our abilities all through the Spring.”

Both the men’s and women’s season will kick off the same week, with the men playing a head-to-head against Utah State before hosting the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational on February 13th and the women heading to the 2017 Battle at Boulder Creek.
