Daniel Summerhays and Zac Blair, Utah’s two best chances to qualify for the U.S. Open failed to advance through sectional qualifying rounds Monday. Summerhays, who finished fourth in the PGA Tour Memorial Tournament this past weekend, shot a first round 76 in the sectional qualifying at Columbus, Ohio and then withdrew. Zac Blair shot 72-70-142 at the US Open Sectional Qualifying at Harding Park in San Francisco. It was not good enough to advance. He finished in 24th place which was four shots out of a qualifying berth and three shots away from a playoff for the final berth.
Others from Utah in the Harding Park qualifying were Jacob Holt of Tooele who shot 72-74-146, and Zach Johnson, Davis Park Golf Course, who shot 76-72-148. The medalist was James Hahn of San Bruno, California. He shot eight under par 66-70-136. There were four players at 137.
