Three players qualified at Promontory on Wednesday to compete in the 2010 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship which will be held at the Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, New York the final week of September. Medalist honors went to 30 year old Phillip Kalivas of Green River, Wyoming after carding the only under par round of the day with a one under 71. Former major league baseball pitcher Mark Mulder of Whisper Rock GC in Scottsdale earned the second qualifying spot with an even par round of 72. Dan Horner of Sandy defeated Jeff Jolley of South Jordan in a sudden death playoff to take home the final spot after the two tied at 73. Jolley will get the nod to play in the championship if any of the qualifers from the Utah site withdraw prior to the event.
The Mid-Amateur championship is limited to amateur golfers over the age of 25.
