Pros Defeat Ams in Governor’s Cup Matches; Gov. Herbert Presents Trophy

The Utah Section of the PGA won all three segments of the Utah Governor’s Matches and retained the Cup by a 19 ½ to 12 ½ margin at Hidden Valley Country Club Wednesday.

 

Governor Gary Herbert added a special touch for the event by being on hand to greet the players and  personally present the Cup to the PGA. He was the first governor since Cal Rampton back in the late 1960s to attend the event and present the trophy.  “It was a true honor to have the Governor in attendace with us today”, said UGA Executive Director Thomas Pagel, “Governor Herbert is an avid golfer himself and a wonderful supporter of our game.”

 

The UGA seniors broke even with the PGA seniors, but the professionals easily handled the amateurs in the at large division.  The UGA and Utah PGA each select their teams based on the performance of the players over the last year, the UGA utilizes the PPR and SPPR as the qualificiation criteria.
